Eccentric billionaire industrialist, Hollywood film mogul, famous for romancing some of the world's most beautiful women, Howard Hughes (Leonardo DiCaprio) was bigger than life. The drama recounts the years of his life from the late 1920s through the 1940s, a time when Hughes was directing and producing Hollywood movies and test flying innovative aircrafts he designed and created.

He seduced some of the biggest stars of the age, Jean Harlow (Gwen Stefani), Ava Gardner (Kate Beckinsale), Katharine Hepburn (Cate Blanchett ) and Jane Russel (although you only see mention of her breasts in the film). Cate Blanchett provides a beautiful portrayal of the clever, cute and at times tomboyish Hepburn.

Hepburn is one of the first to realise that Hughes eccentricities and behaviour are becoming increasingly erratic. Eventually this will lead him to where his life finishes - paranoid and alone living in a room behind the Beverley Hills Hotel, using his money to keep the world away.

What they did with this film was organise every little last detail FIRST. Then, when they had all the little DETAILS perfect, they tried to film them with actors in COSTUMES that were SO accurate.... Why not focus on something thats worth filming, develop the screenplay RESPONSIBLY, and then hire any ass-head actor to play the part. THEN the film would be coming from the right end to begin with. This film from this particular director makes me think of those novels where an elderly and distinguished author teams up with young hot-shot but does not actually input anything substantial or significant. I got the feeling Scorcese was almost the Exec. Producer more than a director. The best compliment I can give this was that it was beautifully COMPETENT, and that is all.

Fantastic film depicting a fantastic mans life by a fantastic actor directored by a marvellous director. Could this get any better...well yes, because Martin Scorsese didn't mind telling the whole story, and Leonardo DiCaprio plays the role very convincingly. Cate Blanchette plays a wonderful Katherine Hepburn.
