It is 1938 and the final days of the British Empire. In a bungalow high up in the green hills above the plains of Ceylon, under a vast blue sky, live the Ferguson family – Bella, a precocious eight year old, her father Henry – owner of Pitlochry, a tea plantation – and her mother Virginia. Alexander McCall Smith is one of the world’s most prolific and

he was a professor of medical law and worked in universities in the

McCall Smith won the prestigious The Dagger in the Library Award in
2004, an award bestowed by the Crime Writers' Association. David
attended Edinburgh University and then went to RADA on a
scholarship. He has worked in most of Britain's major theatres,
including the Royal Court, National Theatre, Shakespeare's Globe
and Royal Shakespeare Company. On television he has played Mr Darcy
in Pride and Prejudice, "The Mad King" in Game of Thrones and the
title character in ITV's Doctor Finlay. David's film work includes
