Rob MacGregor, hired to recapture the declining audience for a daytime gardening programme, quickly becomes Britain's latest heartthrob. The only trouble is, Rob's co-presenter is not at all pleased to see his thunder stolen. Nor is Rob's longterm girlfriend, Katherine, pleased to find out that Rob's been having a steamy affair with one of the TV station's newsreaders... Rob's career goes from strength to strength, but he finds the in-fighting and TV politics harder and harder to cope with - and he's becoming increasingly concerned about his recently widowed father, who seems to be in danger of losing the small nursery the family has run for generations. Somebody is desperate to buy that land, and Rob is determined to find out why...

A wonderful story about an old chap who takes over a nursery and runs it with his son. The son becomes a TV gardener. The villin who wants the nursery. The tragic events which bring people together to help and a love story. I have shared this book with a few garden friends and all have loved it. Well done Ala.

Semi-autobiographical or a complete work of fiction? Mr MacGregor is a book for a quiet glass of wine and a winter's night. It undemandingly takes the reader by the hand and leads him through the times and tribulations of an innocent entering a world of sophisticates. To those who have seen Titchmarsh on TV, it's hard not to hear MacGregor speaking in Titchmarsh's voice. Although described as a 'warm, witty and sexy debut novel', two of those appellations may be a bit undeserved. The 'sexy' certainly wouldn't make my maiden aunt blush, the warm depends on whether your view of young men finding their feet and learning that true love conquers all is 'warm' or overdone. Actually even the witty is intermittent at best. Overall, a pleasant enough book but not one that will take the world by storm and not one that will entice you to read and reread it. Once is probably enough.
