When magic strikes and Atlanta goes to pieces, it's a job for Kate Daniels!

Drafted into working for the Order of Merciful Aid, mercenary Kate Daniels has more paranormal problems than she knows what to do with these days. And in Atlanta, where magic comes and goes like the tide, that's saying a lot.

But when Kate's werewolf friend Derek is discovered nearly dead, she must confront her greatest challenge yet. As her investigation leads her to the Midnight Games - an invitation-only, no-holds-barred ultimate preternatural fighting tournament - she and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, uncover a dark plot that may forever alter the face of Atlanta's shapeshifting community ...

Ilona Andrews is the NEW YORK TIMES bestselling writing team of Ilona and Andrew Gordon. Ilona was born in Russia and came to the USA as a child. At university she met her husband, who helped her write and submit her first novel, MAGIC BITES. They live in Georgia, USA.

The series that just keeps on giving. The third book is somehow even better than the second - how do the authors do it? It is absolutely imperative to note the best part about this installation: Curran and Kate. Their relationship reaches a dimension where I am left wondering what will happen next. Their dynamic is fluid, even in its chaotic nature. he two complement each other, and this really shines in the book and adds to the overall integrity of the story. The story itself is brilliant. Somehow, every character is one that I can sympathise with, so when Derek gets himself into a fair amount of trouble, I'm gripping my seat, trying to figure out what's going to happen while sneaking in some prayers. The Midnight Games brings in a set of players that threaten to wipe out the shapeshifters, and Kate must step into the ring and fight to the death to save the ones she loves (even though she won't admit it). This installation also brings us closer to the overarching story arc that concerns Kate's heritage and her mysterious father, Roland. Every book, we get given slightly more information - and the beauty of this series is that each book is a standalone story. Seriously, this series just keeps getting better.
