This text provides the fundamental background in mechanics, materials, and numerical analysis necessary to understand the principles of metal forming and its analysis. Using a unified approach, the authors bridge traditional gaps between forming practitioners, manufacturing engineers, materials scientists, and mechanicians, to give readers a complete picture of the dynamic field of modern metal forming.

Robert H. Wagoner, NAE, FASM, brings both a teachingperspective
(Professor, Department of Materials Science andEngineering, Ohio
State University) and industrial experience(Staff Research
Scientist, G. M. Research Laboratories) to his workin sheet metal
forming and simulation. Developer of the Sheetfamily of computer
programs in use at several companies anduniversities, Professor
Wagoner has received extensive recognitionfor research
achievements, including the Mathewson Gold Medal,Raymond Memorial
Award, and Hardy Gold Medal. He has more than 150research articles
in print. Professor Wagoner is Director of theCenter for Advanced
Materials and Manufacturing of AutomotiveComponents (CAMMAC), and
is co-organizer of Numisheet '96.
Jean-Loup Chenot is Director of CEMEF, the Centre de Miseen Forme
des Materiaux, a research and teaching facility of theSchool of
Mines of Paris. CEMEF is one of Europe's premierinstitutes devoted
to materials forming and, with close industrialcooperation, is the
developer of the Forge family of programs.Winner of the
Doistau-Blutel Prize of the French Academy ofSciences, the
Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mèrite, the Chevalier de l'Ordre
des Palmes Academiques, andOrganizer of Numiform '92, Dr. Chenot
has presented over 100international or keynote lectures and has
published over 125articles on the subject of numerical simulation
of industrialforming operations, particularly bulk forming.
