In Deltora Quest one, the main character and his friends have to search for 8 gems, that all represent different things to place on a belt that when full has magical powers. This belt belongs to the king, and the hero has just discovered that he is the son of the King but swapped with his ( adoptive parents) daughter who has been brought up by the king and Queen. Each book finds a different gem for the belt. There is usually a battle, hardships and many monsters to defeat on their travels all over the realm of deltora. An extraordinary read

This book is interesting, but really not the best in the series. Lief and Barda - a soldier acting beggar - set off to free Deltora from the Tyranny of the Shadow lord. However, they barely make it out of Del and before being attacked and caught - and freed by what is basically a teenage girl. While this is embarrassing, especially for Barda, the girl is fascinating, strange, and able to lead them right to their goal.
