Jamon Mondo may be dead, but don't think that makes Parrish Plessis' life any less complicated. Sure, she's got a shape- changing psycho off her back, but at what cost? The media have a price on her head so high that every scumbag from the Tert to Viva City Central is out to get a piece of her. The neighbouring ganglords are getting antsy for a share of the territory she just liberated. And Cabal Coomera reckon Parrish owes them a blood debt - one that can only be repaid by assassinating Loyl Daac, the only guy to ever majorly interest her. One thing's for sure ...Parrish is gonna need some bigger guns ...

A much more enjoyable sequel to Nylon Angel. de Pierres seems to have found her groove here. The narrative flows easier, although there are some passages that are difficult to read. Compared to Nylon Angel, however, Code Noir reads at a calmer pace, that works well and doesn't leave the reader so baffled and breathless at the end. Parrish Plessis grows through this book. While continuing to battle the Eskaalim that is getting more strength inside of her, she ventures into Dis and the Mo-Vay that live there. The language is rich when describing her venture into the unknown area. Although it is repeatedly said that Plessis doesn't care much for her appearance, I did find it very interesting when she struggles to accept an accident that befalls her towards the end of the book. Although one should definitely read Nylon Angel before starting this one, it is a lot easier to read, particular once the reader gets grasp on the world, the language usage, and an idea on the people who live there. Highly recommended.

I read a lot of science fantasy novels (way too many, my husband would say) But the Parrish Plessis world is one that scares me, thrills me and has proved far more entertaining than many of the others I have read. If you like your fantasy to be more challenging and thoughtful, then these books are for you...If you would prefer simple futuristic or shapeshifter romance cum sex scenes, then these books are not your cup of chai! Parrish is a really tough combatant, but vulnerable and tender also. caring for the misfits of a world of wild-tek, rescuing the weak against her better judgement and striding her way through a world we can scaredly (p)recognise, she is a worthy heroine in a book I will never sell.

After a violent conflict over the Tert, Parrish comes out the other side somewhat successful. She is now a boss in her own right, with her own income stream and people that want to work for her. There is still the higher level situation to deal with, and again the machinations of others involve her as he goes on a hazardous mission to Dis, where genetic experimentation and what, if anything, is sharing her body drive her to finding out what is going on. She has to work out if she is a saviour, or not.
