Even the most minor of injuries can sideline a runner from being active for an extended period of time; some are even determined to run through the pain and risk injuring themselves further. Danny Dreyer's technique, ChiRunning, can help prevent these injuries and promote the ability to run faster, farther, and with less effort at any age. ChiRunning employs the deep power reserves in the core muscles of the trunk, an approach that evolved out of such disciplines as yoga, Pilates, and t'ai chi. Dreyer's training principles are broken down step-by-step to accommodate all levels of runners.

I have found this book revolutionary. I had a calf injury which had stopped my part time running for weeks and anyway the furtherest I had run was 6km. Now I am running 6 days a week, with ever increasing distances easily and loving it. To quote Oscar Wilde "a woman who tells her age will tell you anything" I'll let you know I am 63, running 42km a week and looking for more. Is it any wonder I recommend this book.

The first couple of chapters talks about the philosophy of the ChiRunning technique. While there are some interesting ideas that are discussed, many things are repeated to create a long drawn out introduction. The actual technique is then described in chapters 3 and 4, which are really the guts of the book. The rest of the book is rather generic ideas about living a life as a runner, developing a running program and eating Chi-rich foods. I've been practising "ChiRunning" now for about three months and I am noticing some improvements. My running is generally more focused and aware and Im also feeling better after my runs now. Whether this is a direct result of reading this book or not I can't say. My overall feeling is that while the author has some very good ideas about running technique and philosophy, he is probably a far better businessman than runner. The book could be condensed to about a third of the size and still convey the same information, but then who would pay $30 for a 50 page book. His website is full of ads and products for you to buy and courses to take, almost as if he's trying to create a running cult. However, with good marketing you can make anything a cult. My suggestion is to get it from the library first and then decide if you want to buy into it all
