He was also the author of numerous columns in regional newspapers throughout his life, many running simultaneously in several newspapers. He also had four books: two with cartoons, "Jolly Jokers in the Town of Johns "in 1907 and "Zimmie's Summer Book" in 1908, one of verses, "Hay Ray Verses" in 1921, and one of prose," Old Time Tales of Warren County" in 1932. However, he is best remembered for the Hay Rake Magazine, of which he published over 40 issues of 64 pages each, where he did almost all the illustrations, stories, and editing.
