Circa 1974, the year of mandatory integration, Bo Willims a High School football star at Grimsley High School, Greensboro, N.C., suffered a career-ending injury. He was later falsely accused of drug possession and raping his white girlfriend after their car caught fire in a local park. The judge gave him the option to enter the military or go to jail. Reluctantly, he joined the Army. While working as an orderly room clerk, he responded to a recruiting flyer searching for candidates to apply to the Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID). He was selected and completed the course at Fort McClellan Alabama. His first duty station was Karshrue Germany, while using unconventional investigative methods, he was directly responsible for capturing a dangerous criminal whose tainted drugs caused the overdose deaths of two Army soldiers. With accolades in hand, he was stationed at Fort Stewart GA, as a member of a drug suppression Joint Task Force, his undercover efforts led to the demise of a cartel-influenced drug gang operating on and off Post. Shortly after Operation Just Cause, where the U.S. invaded Panama and removed Manuel Noriega, the news media reported soldiers were shipping cocaine back in duffle bags through the APO. DEA working on a tip, in Sunrise Florida, busted an Army Staff Sergeant with $150k in a shoe box, that tested positive for cocaine. He confessed and agreed to assist CID with identifying his suppliers. BO Williams was hand-picked for the assignment. The result was the largest drug bust in the southeast at the time.
