In our knowledge-oriented society, the necessity for novel teaching and learning paradigms has been leading to trends like distance learning or e-learning. But very soon problems emerged in connection with such technology-driven educational approaches. Adaptive e-learning tackles these problems through implementing didactical competencies within information technology in order to improve learning. This book examines aspects of adaptive e-learning and evaluates a technological prototype driven by two ideas: enhanced learner observation based on eye-tracking technology and retrieval-based instruction for adapting the learning process. As such, adaptive e-learning is being approached from different angles, ranging from theory to practical implementation issues, accentuated with different concepts and evaluated through case studies.
Felix Mödritscher received a M.Sc. in Computer Technics and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Graz University of Technology. Since 2000 he has been participating in many projects being both a software developer and scientist and dealing with issues of information systems, workflow management, e-learning, and the Web.
